Academics
Tutoring and Homework
Every day that students attend, they are guaranteed a 30-minute tutoring and homework help session with a virtual college tutor from Smart Kids Tutor. Hand-picked tutors work with students through homework, study for tests, and help them advance academically. Students will learn with the same tutor each week.
Reading
Students will enhance their comprehension and fluency skills by reading personal books or books in the Smart Kids Tutor classroom library. If students did not complete their homework during their tutoring session, they will be able to at this time. They can also complete virtual assignments, such as iReady, AR tests, IXL, and Dreambox on Smart Kids Tutor devices.
Enrichment
STEM Play
Math Games
After school, students need to decompress before jumping back into learning. Smart Kids Tutor provides STEM games and toys for students to use between attendance and their first station.
Students will collaborate to play math games, solve puzzles, and complete challenges. These team building, mind testing games encourage students to have fun with math while working together. Our hands-on games have variations for students in different grade levels.
STEAM Game Shows
Students will learn, compete, work together, and answer questions in game shows developed by Smart Kids Tutor. STEAM Game Shows expose students to new, stimulating content in 7 areas of learning: Careers in STEM, Natural Science, Technology, Social Science, History, Language, and Fine Arts.
In each game, students will work as a team to answer questions and earn points! Our goal is to grow students’ curiosity by expanding their knowledge in an exciting, engaging way.
Communication
Parent, Teacher, and Tutor Collaboration
Our tutors are constantly in communication with the parents and teachers of each of our students. Tutors follow teacher subject, concept, and content recommendations when working with students; we want to ensure their classroom success with our help.
Tutors provide parents with monthly progress updates, detailing student improvements, content that was covered, hardships, and plans for the future.

Who will my student be paired with for virtual tutoring? All of our hand-picked tutors are specially trained for a variety of learning environments, including virtual tutoring. We pair students with a tutor in their subject area who we believe will be the best fit for their learning style, personality, and academic history. Tutors use a combination of analyzing students’ past academic performance and discussing strengths, weaknesses, and goals with both you and your student. As the tutor and student continue to meet, tutors are able to communicate and adapt to the student’s individual needs and learning styles, even across a digital platform.

How does Smart Kids Tutor determine what my student needs work on?We identify what your student needs to work on in a few ways. First, we analyze their past assignments and grades, which includes looking over tests and determining the style of questions that they missed. Next, we ask the student. Typically students have an idea of what makes sense and what doesn't, and we use that to gauge how comfortable they are in the class as a whole. And we dive right in to assignments and studying! The best way to determine what students need to work on is to observe how they learn and study. This all happens during the first tutoring session, and the more time students and tutors spend together the more attuned we become to their needs.
-
My student has trouble focusing. Will virtual tutoring work for them?At Smart Kids Tutor, we know that every student is unique. For some students, virtual tutoring is an easy solution to classroom struggles, but for others it can be more challenging to stay focused on the screen. In virtual tutoring sessions, tutors encourage students to participate in interactive academic games and activities to stimulate their mind, work through difficult content, and keep them engaged. To minimize distractions, we ask that during tutoring sessions the only technology students have access to is the device they are actively using for tutoring. This helps students focus on the tasks at hand, and helps tutors maintain their undivided attention.
-
Is there a cost difference between virtual and in-person tutoring?Nope! Tutoring sessions are priced the same for both virtual and in-person tutoring. The cost of the session varies based only on the level of the class and the student’s grade level.
